The Hemodialysis Unit (HD) of the Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa CST)
The Hemodialysis Unit (HD) of the Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa CST) is the territorial reference unit for the population of the Vallés Occidental region. Since 2010, after an intense period of training at the KFH Nephrological Center Mobait in Bischofswerda (Dresden, Germany), with extensive experience and a European benchmark in HD physical rehabilitation; a novel line of research was started, a national precursor in the implementation of physical exercise programs during hemodialysis sessions, highlighting the improvement in physical condition, functional capacity and quality of life related to the health of patients on hemodialysis related to physical activity.
More recent is the incorporation to our line of research of the assessment of the physical condition of the renal patient, the reliability and validation of functional tests, the neuromuscular electro stimulation as an adjunct therapy to physical exercise in the renal patient on hemodialysis or the implementation of home programs of physical exercise in the patient with kidney disease. As a result of this line of research, the CST Nephrology Service is one of the national benchmarks in the application of physical exercise programs and muscle therapies as part of the comprehensive care of kidney patients and has led to the completion of doctoral theses, various observational studies in multicenter clinical practice; communications to national and international congresses, publication of various manuscripts in nephrological medical journals and obtaining several academic awards.
