CEU Universidad Cardenal Herrera

The department of physiotherapy of Universidad Cardenal Herrera-CEU has a large track record in clinical research in the field of renal rehabilitation in association with clinical centers, such as the Hospital de Manises. We have implemented exercise programs for patients undertaking hemodialysis in different clinical centers in Valencia since 2004 (ALCER Turia, Hospital General, Hospital Doctor Peset, Clínica Virgen del Consuelo). Currently we are actively collaborating in exercise promotion with Hospital de Manises and with ALCER Castalia, a regional renal patients’ association. We have just published a series of videos to promote home-based exercise. We are very involved in adult education to change behaviors to improve health. The university and the Health Sciences Faculty organizes multidisciplinary meetings to promote healthy lifestyles.

RESEARCHERS

Eva Segura-Ortí graduated as a Physiotherapist at the Universitat de Valéncia in 1996, Master of Sciences in Physiotherapy at the Queen Margaret Univeristy (United Kingdom) in 2002 ,and obtained a PhD in Physiotherapy at the Universidad Cardenal Herrera-CEU in 2010 (Title: ‘Effects of resistance training during hemodialysis on physical performance and health-related quality of life’). She has worked for the public health system in Spain as a primary care physiotherapist, and works as a lecturer at Universidad Cardenal Herrerra- CEU since 2002. She has published 24 impact-factor publications, most on the topic of this program, exercise for hemodialysis patients. She has been principal researcher of several projects in the topic of renal rehabilitation. She has mentored 2 PhD students, and she is now mentoring 3 more students in the field of renal rehabilitation in different Spanish univeristies. Since 2017 is an administrative member of the European Association of Rehabilitation in Chronic Kidney Disease (EURORECKD). She is also a member of the administrative council of the multidisciplinary group to promote exercise for renal patients, Spanish Society of Nephrology (GEMEFERSEN). She is actively involved with the global renal exercise group (GREX), a multidisciplinary group to promote exercise around the world.

Noemí Valuteña Gimeno graduated as a Physiotherapist at the Universidad Cardenal Herrera-CEU in 2010. Master of Science in Osteopathic Manual Therapy at the Cardenal Herrera CEU in 2011. She obtained a PhD in Physioterapy at the Universidad Cardenal Herrera CEU in 2017 (Title: Relationship between lumbopelvic movement dysfunction and overuse injuries in first league Asobal handball players). She has worked as handball and Olympic sailing team physiotherapists, being a member of the Slovenian Sailing team during the Olympic Games 2012. She has been speaker in several international congresses and works as a lecturer at Universidad Cardenal Herrera – CEU since 2013. Nowadays her work field of interest in therapeutic exercises for cardiac rehabilitation and renal exercise.

Francisco José Martínez Olmos graduated as a Physiotherapist at the Universidad Cardenal Herrera-CEU in 2007. Master of Science Physiotherapeutic Care in Physical Activity and Sport and Osteopathic Manual Therapy at the Universidad Cardenal Herrera-CEU in 2008 and 2010. He is currently undertaking PhD studies in the field of renal rehabilitation. He works as a lecturer at Universidad Cardenal Herrerra-CEU since 2008. He has published 2 impact-factor publications, on the topic of this program, exercise for hemodialysis patients. He has been research collaborator of several projects in the topic of renal rehabilitation since 2008. He is a member of the multidisciplinary group to promote exercise for renal patients, Spanish Society of Nephrology (GEMEFERSEN).
